My personal advice is always go on craigslist, find the cheapest d40/rebel you can find and see if you like it. Build from there, and learn with what you have. When you see the images that a d40 can make, you'll see why you still have more to learn. You need to know why you want to upgrade.

:D I wasn't poking fun specifically. But I'm just trying to reiterate the point that a good photographer will make much better pictures with a far crappier camera.

oooo, I may be a noob on E30's but I like to consider myself at least mid range on cameras.

I'd say compare between canon and nikon for sure (DSLR), point and shoot can't really go too wrong unless you go off the path, or if you're loaded you can get a point and shoot leica. haha
